I want to participate in a research study!

Our lab is always looking for teens and parents to participate in our research! Our participants help us learn about adolescent development and youths' and parents' experiences with the juvenile justice system.

What should I expect during my interviews?

Interviews are primarily conducted in person, with the option for video chat or phone interviews available as well. Depending on the study, interviews can last anywhere from 30 minutes to three hours. Our research team will do our best to accommodate your schedule, including breaking up interviews into multiple parts if necessary.

Is there compensation?
Participants will be compensated for their time. The amount of the compensation varies by study.

Will my data be kept confidential?
Yes! Once you enroll in the study, your name will be replaced by an ID number, allowing us to ensure that your name and your responses are never linked to one another. All files that do contain both your name and your ID number will be stored in a locked filing cabinet in a locked office. Our research team is fully trained on confidentiality procedures. We also have a federally issued Certificate of Confidentiality, which protects your responses from court subpoena. All studies are reviewed and approved by theUTEP Institutional Review Board (IRB), which reviews research studies to ensure ethics and safety. If you have any questions regarding this process, the IRB can be contacted by phone at (915) 747-6590 or by email at irb.orsp@utep.edu.
